Opens and clicks are tracked per campaign and are switched on in the campaign's Options. Replies are detected in the connected mailbox itself, so they are counted whether tracking is on or off.
Turn tracking on or off
- Open the campaign and go to Options.
- Choose the Deliverability tab.
- Under Tracking, set Open tracking and Link tracking.
Open tracking adds a tracking pixel to measure opens. Link tracking rewrites links to measure clicks.
Both need an HTML email. If the campaign is set to send every step as plain text, open tracking is disabled and link tracking is skipped, because a plain-text email has no HTML to carry either one.
Tracked links use Fuzegenai's tracking address. Custom tracking domains are not available.
How far to trust each number
Opens are an estimate. An open is recorded when the pixel image is loaded. Mail apps that block images never report an open, and Apple Mail's privacy protection loads images in advance, which reports opens that did not happen. Compare open rates between two of your own steps or variants. Do not read them as a count of people.
Clicks are firmer, with one caveat. A click is recorded when the rewritten link is requested. Security scanners at some companies follow every link in an incoming email, which can register a click no person made.
Replies are the number to steer by. A reply is a real message arriving in your mailbox. It needs no pixel and no rewritten link.
Tracking and deliverability
A tracking pixel and rewritten links are both things a spam filter can see. A short plain email with tracking off gives the filter the least to object to. If placement matters more to you than an open rate, leave tracking off. The free spam checker shows how a draft scores before you decide.
Every campaign email is scored before it sends. See The pre-send spam check.
What a reply changes
Replies appear in the inbox inside Fuzegenai, and they drive the campaign's Stop rules, on the tab of that name in Options:
- Stop emailing a lead once they reply ends the sequence for that lead.
- Stop the campaign for a whole company on reply means one reply stops everyone at that company.
- Stop on auto-reply treats out-of-office and other auto-replies as a stop.
The same tab has Insert unsubscribe link header, which adds a one-click unsubscribe header (RFC 8058) where providers support it. Gmail and Yahoo expect one-click unsubscribe from bulk senders; see Google's email sender guidelines.
If the numbers look wrong
- No opens at all: check that Open tracking is on and that the campaign is not sending as plain text.
- Opens but no replies: the numbers are probably fine. The copy or the list is the place to look.
- A sudden fall in opens across campaigns: mail may be going to spam. See Emails are landing in spam.
