Inbox placement

Inbox placement testing that shows where your mail lands, per provider.

Warmup mail goes to seed mailboxes every day. We read which folder it reached and score each mailbox on it.

Placement is engineering, not a promise.

The loop runs every day for every mailbox: seed, score, throttle, rescue.

01

Seed, every day.

Warmup mail goes to seed mailboxes and the warmup pool. Each one reports the folder it reached.

02

Score each mailbox.

Placement is the biggest input to a score out of 100. The worst provider counts.

03

Throttle, don't burn.

A weak mailbox sends a fifth of its limit. A critical one stops and re-warms.

04

Rescue and repeat.

Warmup mail in spam or Promotions is moved back, so the history keeps building.

What an inbox placement test actually does.

A placement test sends 10 real emails from one mailbox to seed inboxes we control at Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and other providers. The emails go out through the warmup system, spaced about 90 seconds apart so they never leave as one burst.

Each seed inbox reports the folder its email reached: the inbox, Gmail's Promotions tab, or spam. The test waits up to an hour for every email to be found. An email that never shows up in any folder counts against the mailbox, because a rejected or dropped message is worse than one in spam.

The test passes when at least 8 of the 10 emails land where a person would see them, in the inbox or in Promotions. It finishes early once the result can no longer change. Alongside the verdict you get the split per provider, the SPF, DKIM and DMARC results the seeds saw, and the spam score of each test email.

Every prewarmed inbox you buy from Email accounts gets a placement test before it is handed over, and it is handed over only when it passes. Results for your workspace are summarised by provider under Global Analytics, on the Health metrics tab.

A spam guard that takes a mailbox out before it does damage.

One test is a snapshot. The spam guard watches every mailbox all the time. It looks at where that mailbox's warmup mail landed across the seed inboxes over the last 7 days.

When 20% or more of that mail lands in spam, the mailbox leaves your campaigns and keeps warming. It comes back only when spam placement falls under 10%. The gap between the two numbers stops a mailbox flapping in and out of campaigns on a noisy day, and nothing brings it back early.

The guard waits for at least 20 seed results before it decides either way. On a small sample, placement can swing by 20 points from one day to the next, and a decision made on that would be a guess.

Placement also feeds the mailbox's reputation score out of 100, which sets how much campaign volume the mailbox gets.

What placement data can and can't tell you.

Placement tests and the spam guard measure how providers treat a mailbox. They use warmup mail, not your campaign copy, so they will not tell you which folder a particular campaign email reached. No tool can see inside a prospect's inbox.

Your campaign copy gets its own check. Every campaign email is spam-scored before it leaves, and anything at 2.0 or above is held back. The pre-send spam check explains what pushes a score up.

Want to test before you sign up? The free spam checker scores a draft the same way, and the free domain checker reads your SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MX records. Both run without an account.

We won't promise you 95%.

Nobody controls Gmail's filters. We control what leaves: every email is spam-scored, every mailbox earns its volume, and a weak mailbox slows down before it burns.

Anyone who guarantees a placement number is guessing with your domain.

The deliverability math, explained.

How is placement measured?

Warmup mail goes to seed mailboxes and other mailboxes in the warmup pool. Each one reports the folder it reached, and the results are combined per provider over a rolling 14-day window.

Is this the placement of my campaign emails?

It is the placement of your mailbox's warmup mail, the clearest signal of how providers treat that mailbox. Campaign emails are spam-scored separately before they leave.

Does it slow down sending?

No. Warmup runs alongside your campaigns, and the score updates within about a minute of a new signal arriving.

What happens when placement drops?

The mailbox's share of campaign volume falls with its score. A Bad mailbox sends about a fifth of its limit, and a Critical one is taken out of campaigns and warmed up again.

Do Gmail Promotions count as a pass?

Yes. A placement test counts the inbox and the Promotions tab as placed, because a person sees both. Spam, and emails that never arrive, count against the mailbox.

Can I add Google's own data?

Yes. Connect Google Postmaster Tools to see the domain and IP reputation Google reports. It is optional, and the reputation score works without it.
