Move from Instantly, Smartlead or MailerLite

What each built-in importer brings across from your old tool, and what it leaves behind.

By Fuzegenai TeamLast updated

Fuzegenai has built-in importers for Instantly, Smartlead and MailerLite. Each one connects with an API key from the old tool and runs as a background job. The importers only read from the old tool; nothing there is paused, edited or deleted.

Where the importers live

Open Integrations from the sidebar, then choose Migrations in the menu bar at the bottom of the page. There is one card per tool. Running an import needs the Owner, Admin or Editor role.

Import from Instantly

  1. On the Instantly Integration card, click Connect Workspace.
  2. In Link Instantly Workspace, paste your key into API Key. Create the key in Instantly under Settings > API with the all:read scope. Without email access the import still runs, but conversations stay behind and leads that were already emailed are paused.
  3. Click Connect Workspace. Connecting does not import anything yet.
  4. Click Import everything.

The import runs in this order: mailboxes, block list, then each campaign with its leads and conversations, then lead lists. Instantly lets the import read about 2,000 emails a minute, so a large inbox can take a while.

Import from Smartlead

  1. On the Smartlead Migration card, paste your key into Smartlead API key. You find it in Smartlead under Settings → Profile.
  2. Click Connect Smartlead, then Import everything.

Smartlead limits API keys to about 60 requests a minute, so a large workspace can take a while.

Import from MailerLite

  1. On the MailerLite Migration card, paste a token into MailerLite API token. Generate it in MailerLite under Integrations → API.
  2. Click Connect MailerLite, then Start migration.

Each card shows the current step and a progress bar while the job runs. You can close the tab; the import carries on. Keys and tokens are encrypted at rest.

What comes across

MailerLiteGroups as lead lists, and their active subscribers with field valuesUnsubscribed, bounced, unconfirmed and junk subscribers; campaigns; automations

Warmup reputation built inside another tool's warmup network does not transfer. Its warmup scores are saved with each mailbox for reference.

A few details worth knowing:

  • Nothing arrives running. Campaigns that were active or paused arrive paused, drafts as drafts, finished ones as completed. This stops anyone being emailed by both tools at once.
  • Leads keep their place. A lead that already got two steps gets step three when you resume, never step one again. A lead whose sent emails could not be read is paused instead, and an unsubscribed or bounced lead is added to your suppression list.
  • Replies keep threading. Imported conversations keep their message IDs, so a reply that arrives later lands in the same conversation, and the next follow-up continues the same email thread.
  • Some things are adjusted and listed. Random-text variations like {Hi|Hello} keep their first option, follow-ups wait at least one whole day, and settings with no equivalent are noted. The card lists every change under Things to review.
  • Smartlead SMTP mailboxes arrive connected. Smartlead shares their saved passwords, and each one is checked against the mail server first. Google and Microsoft sign-ins, and any password the server refuses, need reconnecting.
  • MailerLite custom fields are kept as values on each subscriber. Field definitions are not created.

After the import

  1. Reconnect the mailboxes the card lists, in Email Accounts. Add each one the usual way: it takes over the imported mailbox instead of creating a second one. See connect Gmail and Google Workspace.
  2. Check DNS. See SPF, DKIM and DMARC and domain warmup explained.
  3. Read Things to review on the card, then check each campaign's sequence and mailboxes.
  4. Pause the campaign in the old tool, then resume it here.

Running an import again

All three can be run again with Import again, and each run only adds what is new. Campaigns, steps, schedules and settings you already imported are left as they are, so edits made in Fuzegenai are kept. New leads and conversations are added, and leads paused because their emails could not be read are checked again. A campaign already resumed in Fuzegenai is skipped. MailerLite matches groups and subscribers it has seen before.
